Etcheverry Faculty Space

Title:
Etcheverry Faculty Space
Summary:
Project to potentially cut in half the amount of electricity used in the Mechanical Engineering Department's faculty research space. This will be accomplished by re-wiring in a manner that allows lighting only in the specific area needed, rather than turning on all the overhead lights in the entire research area as happens with the current two light switches. She anticipates within as little as seven years the financial cost of the installation will be recouped. Need: $4,700, 100% funded
More Information:
Alice Agogino notes that about 40% of the electricity consumed in commercial buildings is for lighting, and that up to half of that electricity can be reduced by increasing the number of light on/off switches, and using automatic dimming and intelligent sensor and control algorithms. An innovative wireless system she previously installed in a two person campus office is now ready for use in her research space at 6102 Etcheverry Hall, which includes a hallway, group meeting/conference areas, and a work area with about 10 personal workstations. Right now this entire area contains only two on/off (or binary) switches so that the entire area must be lit even if only a small portion is in use.
