Getting into Classes and how to deal with being wait-listed
School has officially started! I hope everyone got into all the classes that they wanted this semester and even if you have not, do not panic. Just send the professor a friendly email and tell them why you want to take their class and they will try their best to move you up on the wait list.
So this Monday I finally got into all the classes that I was wait-listed for. Due to budget cuts, classes have been significantly harder to get into compared to previous semesters here. Though the wait-lists seems to be smaller in numbers, it does not move as fast as it did before. So I had to talk to the professors and they told me to send them an email and then I got into all the classes that I wanted!
Another good advise is to talk to the GSI's in your discussion group and perhaps find out which sections are packed and which sections are more empty. That way even though you are a high number on the wait-list you can still potentially have a better chance in getting into the class if you choose a section time that not a lot of people are going to.
Getting into classes can be hard, but just hang on in there and don't forget to e-mail and talk to the professors and GSI's because they are really trying their best to get everyone on the wait-list in.
